Mark 10:17-19: Comment at Gloucester Outdoor Church (18/8/2015): People brought the children to Jesus [so parents were involved], but then Jesus said “Let the children come” [so kids involved too]. So bringing kids for baptism has to involve both. Kids can’t be forced against their will.
Mark 6:34 Jesus had compassion on the crowd. Compassion moves us to love beyond what we can manage in the natural: to love with supernatural love. One comment at Gloucester Outdoor Church: “The supernatural is how we get saved. My sister who was in a coma, she must have been reached through the supernatural, because nothing else could reach her. [The sister is now walking and talking].”
Mark 12:17: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and God what is God’s”: comment at Gloucester Outdoor Church: “If you feel you should give, then it isn’t giving.” To give something it has to be a gift not a duty.
Mark 10:46-48: Blind Bartimaus was always begging. Jesus was walking by. So he began shouting, “Jesus, Son of David, please help!” 48 Many people criticized the blind man and told him to be quiet. But he shouted more and more, “Son of David, please help me” Comment at Gloucester Outdoor Church: we all know what this is like: “we’ve all been children. Parents teach children for the first 2 years of their lives to walk and talk, and the rest of their childhood telling them to sit down and shut up.”
Mark 8:14-21: “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees”. What attitudes spread? Comments at Gloucester Outdoor Church: “fear, gossip, wisdom, common sense”
Mark 4:20 “Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop – 30, 60 or even 100 times what was sown.” One comment at Gloucester Outdoor Church: “Imagine if you just helped 3 people, and they helped 3 others and so on …. imagine!”
Mark 3:34-5: “Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Comments at Gloucester outdoor church: “Loyalty makes you family.” A husband and wife: if one of them aren’t loyal, then the family is broken. Jesus’ mother and brothers wanted to control Jesus, but they needed to let go of Jesus. If you hold a bird in your hands, you can either hold on to it … or let it go.
Mark 5:34 “Daughter, your faith is healed you.” One comment at Gloucester Outdoor Church: “Faith is when a Mum has a baby! How incredible, to let a divine being grow inside you.” Another comment: “I had faith when I didn’t get tests done on my baby to see if it had Down’s Syndrome etc: I wouldn’t have cared. ” A baby is a baby.
