Often Christians express their faith by walking alongside others, in a form of Street Chaplaincy. There are excellent examples in Seattle, Waltham (Massachussetts), San Francisco and Calgary. Reading Craig Rennebohm’s Souls in the Hands of Tender God, (Beacon Press, Boston, 2008) gives you a flavour for what’s involved. The gentle presence of companionship of a street chaplain can make all the difference between life and death. The gentle bible is one resource that chaplains have used. Training in street chaplaincy has been accomplished in a formal setting: see this document: David Duncombe’s Street Chaplaincy Training.
